My name is Thomith Chin, 23, a newly arrived permanent resident to America in 2014. Currently, I am a student at the University of Virginia majoring in Political Philosophy, Policy and Law. I had completed my Associate’s Degree earlier at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI).
During my activism at CCRI, I was a math tutor, soccer player, VP of DECA, VP of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and Treasurer for the school’s student body. Because I am fluent in Khmer, I volunteered with the Cambodian Society of Rhode Island as a translator, emcee, and other opportunities that utilized my knowledge of the language and culture. One of my proudest moments so far was being awarded the highly selective Speaker Nicholas A. Mattiello and The Rhode Island House of Representative’s Scholar-Athlete Award in May 2017.
I’m passionate about education. There are many ways to contribute to the country and the world, but I believe education is the most powerful method to make the world a better place.
